Vancouver B.C. – B.C.’s Human Rights Commissioner, Kasari Govender, will release the final report of the Inquiry into hate in the pandemic on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at an in-person joint media and community event that is being livestreamed across the province from 10:00am to 11:30am PDT.
Media are invited to register below to attend the event in-person or online. In advance of the release, media are invited to register to receive an embargoed copy of “From hate to hope: Report of the Inquiry into hate in the COVID-19 pandemic,” on the morning of March 6, 2023.
On the morning of the report release, media are also invited to register to attend a technical briefing by Inquiry lawyers where they can ask technical questions from 9:30-10:00am either in person or through a zoom link to be provided to those who register.
The report reflects the voices of thousands of people across B.C., documenting their experiences of hate during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Note: The deadline to register to receive embargoed copies or attend the event is Friday, March 3, 2023 at 2:00pm PDT. When registering, please advise us of any accessibility needs or translation requirements you may have. We will work to accommodate you. Registration for the event will be accepted until 2:00pm on Monday, March 6.
A note on the event question and answer portion
As we will be accepting questions from community and media both online and off at the main event, all participants will be asked to write their questions down during the event so that all questions can be treated the same. There will be an additional opportunity for media to interview the Commissioner on site directly after the event and additional requests can be sent to media@bchumanrights.ca.
About the report embargo
BCOHRC’s “From hate to hope” report is under strict embargo until Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at 10:01 a.m. PDT, following the start of our event. When registering to attend the event, members of the media will be asked to confirm they will abide by our embargo before they are sent a copy of the submission via email. The submission is being provided in advance to members of the media due to its length, complexity and volume of statistics.
